Hi All

Can anyone recommend a good quality lightweight (approx5-7kgs) battery, after some research odyssey seem to be the best bet but happy to hear others?

I use the odyssey in the Mini and my brother uses it in his Soarer.

Most reliable bit of both cars.

Is your a dry cell? as my car is for road and track wanted a dry cell so I didn't require a battery box!

I've got a Braille 15 kg lighter than the battery l replaced, no dramas kicking over the car, I keep the battery on a trickle charge because the car is only driven every so often.

is the PC680 a dry cell battery? I was hoping to get away with not having a battery box? It will be mounted behind the passenger seat

PC680 is a gel battery. Can be mounted standing up or on its side. Great bit of kit, it weighs 7kg and has plenty of CCA to turn the motor over. Do not let it run down though, it kills them permanently.

It comes in a metal case that it is glued in with silicon stuff. You can put a hacksaw blade down the side and get the battery out of the case then weld tabs onto the side to mount it, then put the batter back in and either glue or cable tie it back in. I'm on my second and they crank really well. I never had any problems bringing it back from dead with a normal battery charger.

The seller is Coxy's motorsport and he is a good bloke. Give him a call as he may be able to do it cheaper if you pay cash on pickup. He is in Greensborough.

I've got a brand new PC680 just sitting at home if you're interested! I've no need for it.

Not sure about how well they work for cars, but my brother bought an SSB lithium battery for his motorbike. I'm going to do the same, because I am impressed with it.

Cranking power is great, and very lightweight. Only issue is I don't think they have as much capacity. But once the bike (or car) is running and the alternator is working, that's not an issue.

$130 will buy a 220CCA motorbike battery that weighs 600g. Light as a feather. They have bigger batteries too, but they don't seem to be marketed for cars. If I were racing, that's what I'd go for though.

Another vote for the Odyssey PC680. Have had it in my hillclimb/sprint/rally/other comp car as long as I've owned it (over two and a half years now), and has never missed a beat.

I was running a 220cca motorbike battery before with no troubles. The LiFePo4 batteries get stronger the more you crank. The only issue is they are weak when cold , but cranking will warm them.

Oh and 0.5kg !!
