new enthusiastic member who is trying to find some parts for my new morris mini... (restoration job)

does anyone know if there is a mini wrecker in the melbourne area? want to see what i could pull off some wrecked ones to keep costs down.

Welcome to minis, and welcome to the forum.

Yeah, list your items up. Many people have these parts around the garage. Mini suppliers will also have them, but the days of minis laying around in standard car wreckers has more or less passed.

You will get everything your after (or a pointer to what you need to do) if you put an ad up in the Wanted section here in particular

In Cooma at Flynns Wrecking yard rated by Wheels magazine as being in the top 10 nostalgic wrecking yards in the world the owner Wayne Flynn has about 8 roundnose mini of varying ages with lots of hard to get parts ie 2 screw talelight base,s.He is very approachable & is worth the trip to Cooma to go through the yard.

I'm predominantly North, in Brunswick at the moment but most of the work is being done in Hampton.

I'm restoring a Morris Mini K (1971) Roundnose and i am still trying to piece together everything that I need but right now I'm looking for:

1. Oval Dash Speedo Housing and chrome bezel (also the smaller metal one that goes behind it, someone has ripped mine out but i have the speedo)
2. Anything demister/heater related (looking for vents, pumps & dash controls etc)
3. Two speed wiper motor

All reasonably easy, and you will ge them all.

A point of note, your oval speedo binnacle will be a later type. That is not like the early Mk1 binnacles. Yours will be single piece, and the speedo will mount to the back with the oil and water gauges attaching as well. Much simpler, and more plentiful.

Not all as easy as you might think Mick. That model Mini K had demister/air controls on a special bracket that mounts to the dash rail to the right of the steering wheel, quite hard to find !!

Thats very true. I was only considering the Cooper S type heaters.

I like the aftermarket ones that are available these days however. They're small, powerful and not expensive either. May not help with the demister however.

71 K heater is very easy to get, is it the plastic clubbie heater. It is the heater controls that are hard to find.
Pretty easy to replicate though, it is just a bracket with two pull cables and a toggle switch.

Was just having a look at those after market heaters, seem quite good and small which is nice.

Trying to keep dash to a minimum.

Silly question, they would just blow hot air wouldn't they though? less useful in creating a cool air layer to stop fogging?

They do, but to be honest, the mini heaters have never in my experience been that crash hot at removing mist from the windscreen. I keep a chux in the door pocket as the windscreen is close to your nose anyway. The heater I never go without though!

My stock Mk1 Cooper S heater makes little upside down triangles at the bottom of the windscreen when put to the test.

I was reading about the brackets a while back on another forum.

850man had a couple (not sure if for sale though)

But I think someone had some drawings with dimensions to make one to original specs.

May have been Tim on minidriver (not sure of his name if he is here)

But not the easiest thing to find, as they only came on 71 mini K's (ie the ones with lift up door handles) I believe
