Just putting some feelers out if anyone has brought in a bare A-series (or other) engine from the UK? I've found a good newly built race engine there via a personal contact (and reliable contact too) and need to organise getting it freighted.

If anyone here has done this or has reliable freight forwarding recommendations, I would really appreciate some shared insight?

Thanks so much

Dave

I had actually sold a MK1 S engine on Ebay that went to Japan of all places. I used 'pack n send' they were very good but cost about $750. I'm not sure if they can arrange a pick up and delivery? Only thing I had to make sure of was what type of timber I used for the crate.

Thanks for that Ian. Will check them out and see what they can do? Have been drawing blanks with other forwarders and importers I've tried thus far. That said, I have time. My new engine is safely stored away over there... however I do obviously want to find a reaosnable way of getting it here.

Cheers

Dave

just on a side note,
the engines that we used to bring in from Phomgolia on wooden pallets
ended up needing to be strapped onto plastic pallets a few years ago
less diseases able to attach themselves to plastic (apparently)

I used GBS for an RV8 engine in 2009.
Collected Newchapel to arrival port Adelaide.
1 piece....160kg 0.36m3................GBP 193:12.
Weekly sailings..................transit time...33 days port - port

Cost will have risen since then of course.

It's not so much the diseases attached but the grubs or larvae that may be inside the timber.

Have a chat with some of the guys that run the Mini spares places. Mini Imports brings second hand parts in.

They may be able to ship your engine with their parts at a better rate if they are bringing in a container.
