I am thinking of running e85 in an engine that I'm building at the moment. I am aware of the things I need to do with the fuel system and compression ratio etc. I am just wondering what people have done for jetting in a weber to run e85. I am just after a base setup until I can dyno it I am guessing you would need fairly big mains but keep the airs fairly small and maybe plug some holes up in the emulsion tubes and so on? Any help or experience would be appreciated.

Interested in this. Can you document your progress?

I am interested as well. I have a 1330 with 45weber that runs well on 98. I understand that the economy drops but you gain power and cheaper pump price. Did you just have to replace the hoses and seals, and richen the carb?

Depnding on what power you are making and your engine specs .. if its a big motor you will need to change the needle and seat to a 3.0mm
mains on mine are around 210s f15 emulsion tubes , 55f8 idles ... 3/8 fuel lines .. pump must be E85 safe as all the rubber lines .. a good pre filter before the pump is a good idea to

you wont pick up much Hp in the top end .. mid range torque will increase

the best thing is everything runs cooler and it love high comp like 13:1+

if your car sits for a long time between runs you should drain the fuel from your carby as it leaves a residue when it evaporates ( yucky )

Where do you get e85 in Tasmania? United Sandy Bay had it, but I think they gave up on it. Is it like racing fuel that you have to get brought-in in drums?

Dont forget that pump e85 usually isnt 85% ethanol, usually lower. Not sure about if you can get it in barrels, if so i assume the percentage would be more or less spot-on

Barrels are definitely different to the pump stuff. Your cars tune will be specific to one or the other.

Isn't there issues with ethanol and rusting stuff like fuel lines, fuel tank and such on older cars???

If you go efi there are ethanol content sensors and some ECUs have the ability to have tunes on different ethano/petrol percentages. No idea what you can do with carb

In regards to rusting, from what i have read (so im happy to be corrected), ethanol attracts water

Ethanol does attract water (hygroscopic) it culminated in phase separation once the water content gets high enough. The trick is good fuel management, don't leave it sitting in the tank for long periods.

I'm not sure where you get it in tas, I am in vic now though and I will most likely be buying e85 in drums. I have e85 safe fuel cell, hose and pump etc all that kind of stuff is sorted I'm just trying to get an idea for the tune. I will let you know how it all goes but it's still a long way off!
Thanks
