Hi All,

I don't have to say much. Please grind your Cam Followers.....

He thought he was putting the best of everything in it, this is the result after a few thousand kilometres.

These cam followers weren't Kent followers, they were a lightened follower that most people use in their motors.

Nothing five minutes with some emery paper wouldn't fix.

Anyway, Graham, it's not all bad news. At least it wasn't one of your cams that was destroyed. :)

IMO it's a good idea to check your valve lift figures from time to time with a dial gauge. If the lift starts going south, and you are getting mucho stuff on the sump plug magnet, you may have a problem....
[edit] I wore a Camtech VP3 cam down once, valve lift (1.5 rockers) dropped from .490" to .270"...!

An additional question sort of in the same ballpark.... I see mentioned that a hardness of 55-57 Rockwell Hardness is recommended for lifters. Does a reground cam need to be heat treated to match this or slightly exceed this figure- but whilst asking this, i doubt hardness played any key factor in this scenario.. ouch

What do you think post mortem is Graham?
No radius on followers and no rotation, or hardness issues as well?
Were the spring pressures OTT?
cheers Ben

The surface looks like it shatters like glass...

Surface is white iron, hard as. (lifters are cast iron, chill cast on the end).
