I can't fit in the car at all. I wonder if the 2inch thick base foam is too thick???

I can't believe it. This has cost me $2000 all for effing nothing. Can someone please post up some pictures of low back seats fitted to minis?

I can see that they have changed the profile of the back part of the chair. The foam seems to be higher then the back top railing. And also it's much thicker, reducing the area for your bum to go.

I don't understand, I used to fit in the car in 1997 with 25 year old clubman seats... Are they totally different?????????

I had the same problem when i tried to fit my new cobra classic RS' s.
you are correct, its the thicker base that is the problem.
I ended up mounting mine on the rear of the cross member instead of the front. Then the minimum height wasnt blocked by the crossmember.

It would be a whole lot easier if that silly crossmember was about 1 inch lower.

Problem is they have trimmed them differently to the original. To me it looks like the backrest is too thick therefore placing where you sit too far forward and higher and then if the base is thicker that just adds to the problem. If the foam is extra dense that won't help either.

My seat bases are 440mm from the front edge to the backrest and approx 220mm from the floor to the top of the base of the seat. How do these measurements compare to yours.

I placed double thickness in the base but not thicker in the back. Did they use the UK foam kit??

I think you should ask/insist the trimmer to fix it for free. The front thy support looks too thick and too high.

Thanks for those measurements. Ill double check them.

Yes, the back rest is much thicker. First thing I noticed. I agree, there is not much space for the bum to go with the hump at the front...

The base foam I supplied, was from Minispares and is 2inch thick.

They constructed the foam for the backrest.

Ill try to get some measurements this arvy.

I would imagine to re-do the seat will cost me another $1000, so Im debating if I should just buy a set of racing buckets again... I cant imagine they will re-do it for free, its not really their fault? I supplied the base foam.

I bet the problem is the backrest thickness.

Surely they used the old foam and covers as a guide?

It wouldn't appear so. They pointed out that they improved the backrest section. The foam feels really thick there. How thick is it normally? I thought it was only like that horse hair hessian stuff???

I had a similar issue with a car I had, with old seats the foam is softer and worn and with reconditioned the foam is firmer and has not sagged with age, try looking at an old bed and see where the person sleeping has caused the bed to sag, I replaced the foam on a seat and ended up losing 50mm of head room and that was old worn seat base foam for same age same model car but less worn seat base foam

You can also get a bit of a multiplier effect start to happen on a resto too, sound deadening, underlay, new carpet, reupholstered seat etc may have been used and each newly replaced item will add a few more mm cutting into your height as it raises the back of the seat (well until they compress over time)
