Just looking at the ID plate photos I have it seems to work.
It lacks a couple of digits though.
Australia added the full colour name and then dropped the paint digit.

But doesn't that list, and supposedly the one you have with even more numbers on it, support the idea that there were over 31,000 CKD Minis assembled in Australia?

I just found a Service Bulletin from 1963 that says the English Car number was removed off the ID plate at car number 32,000 (and Cooper car number 2000)

Would love to see the Service Bulletin.

Were they saying the number was removed because they had gone over to local production or was another reason given?

That would line up perfectly with this list in July 63. Must have made 31500 CKD 850's. Very rare beast

Don't get me wrong - I know the very early cars are different from the later ones and they are particularly rare these days, and quite sought after.

I just don't believe there were only 3,449 Minis built CKD in Australia and in the absence of proof to the contrary then I have no reason to discount the 31,501 listed on the above list, which appears to be confirmed by the Service Bulletin (scan please M1100).

There were exactly 3449 CKD Morris 850s.

Now you're agreeing there were over 31,000 CKD Minis and what you really meant was 3,449 of the early floorpan version Minis produced in CKD?

So, this was all just a misunderstanding?

Fine.....but where does the 3,449 figure come from, again?

Thanks
Sports 850 Man

I am sorry but I mistook this statement as well.
We got there in the end.

I'm not questioning your cars - I am sure they will be everything you say they are. I would be interested to see all the differences from later cars.

My question is to do with the 3,449 figure and where it came from. I would be interested to see the letter, or even the email, from BMH.

The warranty cards, brochures, etc are all great to have with the car, but they don't add anything to the authority of the CKD numbers - or the 9/ for that matter, do they?

Where does the starting point of 550 come from?
I know it is the first number on that list but who made that list and is it complete?

I have a couple of things that say all CKD cars start at car 1 and all locally manufactured cars start at 501. So why 550 on the 850?

A parts book says cars 1 to 32,000 have the UK chassis number next to the Australian number.
A bulletin says the change point was car 32,000.

Why do Morris Minors have 5/, 6/, 7/, 8/ and 9/ in front of their car numbers if 9 means CKD?

The list is quite incomplete and I would suggest that 550 is not the first car. It is listed as being delivered in April 1961. If this list is correct then it stands to reason a further 550 cars could easily have been built in the first month or two - the official release being March and dealers would have got stock in early March, so built in February or even January, to have them for the release.

Again, would be good to see the references you mention M1100 and the exact wording - to avoid any further misunderstanding by anyone.
