Hi all

This is information grab for key features of the Morris Minimatic.
any corrections welcome as not all resources were accurate and some conflicting!
Sorting this out will help me with organising correct colour codes and possible interior combos.

The Mini-Matic MK1 was based off of the Morris Mini De Luxe. (first release early '68?)
The Mini-Matic MK2 was based off of the Morris Mini K. (really ? does that mean mk2 started early '69?)

http://www.minimatic.com.au/articles.php?article_id=22

In addition to this information :

Can anybody give some information regarding body number and built dates? (Approximates based on your cars)

Mine has a 7/68 wiper motor.
Guage binnacle has indicator lights
Are there other indications of which Mark that i could look for?

Also I'm trying to discern the original interior colour .... its been painted black;(
But original vinyl looks to be a light blue.
Was that a colour combo for '68 ...snow white and blue interior?

Obviously certain colours only matched/were used with certain body colours. If the car was white then interior could have been nearly any of the interior colours at the time.

I have seen Snow White cars with Black, Red, Blue and Green interiors. There was a cream available also but I've never seen a cream interior in a white car.

Check the number stamped on the rad shroud.
If it's a Mk2 Matic it should be YA2S5 prefix. And it should have oil and temp gauges in the binnacle. Mk1 Matic did not.

Judging by the pics in your other thread the car would be a 1968 Mk1 Mini-Matic. The wipers and wiper panel changed in around May/June 68 so it must be later than that. If that is the original 7/68 wiper motor then usually rough guide is to add a couple of months so possibly Sept 68 build.

Someone has likely replaced the original single speedo with a 3 gauge set. Also the original upholstery would have been a different pattern to what you have presently.

Below are photos of a very original 68 Mk1 Matic, Yours being White could really have been any of the 5 vinyl colours available. If you are lucky there could be remnants of old vinyl glued in the door pockets or rear wheel arches as a clue.

No problem. We owned both a Mk 1 and mk2 when I was growing up. Did my driving test in one. It's surprising how many are popping up. Many would not even realize there was such a model.

Is your black oval binicle held on by 4 small screws on the front face. If so you
may find the cream single binicle is still behind it.

Another source of information is the Brochures section in Mini Media.

.....just looking at your pic's, what colour is the vinyl stuck in the bottom of the door pocket? That could be original? They originally had colour matched rubber matting/flooring, look up under the dash for any old remnants of that too, also the base of the dash shelf.

I think someone has used trim and seats from a earlier Mini Deluxe, that door pattern with just the rectangle embossed is earlier as well as that seat pattern.

Apart from the oval dash and the trim/upholstery it all looks pretty standard. Good Luck with it.

Thanks philb . I'm getting excited about it now . The body should be off to get blasted in the next couple of weeks and then the engine build starts ... Still trying to figure out what to do with that though:/
