Do you have any pictures of the trailer and its special features

Trailer rear section is hinged and folds onto the front for easy storage. Tail lights and number plate are fitted to a portable light board which can be moved from the middle to the rear.
Unfold the trailer and lock in the latch to secure front to rear.

Finally release the latch on the front of the trailer to tilt the trailer and drive on - ratchet down straps over the front tyres.

Love it Chris. Where did you get it from?

cheers
michael

Nice trailer. Looks like a great design. The door does clear the flip up hinge doesnt it?

Absolutely love the cooper s though. Very very jealous

Thanks Scoop, love the blue mini too - it's my dream car - thanks for appreciating it.

Funny you mention the hinges Scoop - when I first brought the trailer as a race car/trailer package from the previous owner, the mini doors were very close to the hinge. and would occasionally foul or trap you in the car (especially if the mini had low suspension). However the hinges have now been modified by grinding a section out - seems to work well now with most minis :D

Cheers

Chris

Do you know where I could get one made just like that? It is absolutely perfect for what I need (i.e. something small I can negotiate around and also fit in our shed with our three cars. )

... and yes, your Mini is beautiful too.

I've seen another like Crumpets... (without a toolbox)
The other trick it has - is you can stand it on its end when folded up - so takes up even less space.

Love the design...

I would love to stop hiring servo trailers but storage is a problem. That ticks a lot of boxes!

What about one of those gypsie trailers or car dolly trailers?

Just though, I'm not an expert with the RMS rules, but if you have a box trailer that can carry a mini, granted it just fits width wise and length wise, but obviously too deep to viably to use it, does anyone know if it would it be ok to make (what I would call) two raising rails, and slide them in the box trailer when you have to carry the mini and remove them afterwards?

You'd have one on either side inside the box trailer, this would raise your mini to the level required to be able to open the doors (accurately, as you customize these rails), the mini would be locked inside the trailer and you can remove them at will. You could also make ramps and attach these to the rails, and BTW both ramps and rails could be made from aluminum.

Granted it would raise the centre of gravity, but unless you intend using this regularly, on the odd occasion you would take it easy. Regarding height, I have carried a shell on very top of my box trailer and the top of the roof was actually lower than the van I used to tow the trailer.... resting the mini on these rails would actually make it lower than sitting the shell on top of it.

That's my suggestion, I'm open to criticism or suggestions.

Thanks

We have bought a VZ commodore V6 last year and I'm looking at getting a tow bar kit for it. Would the 1600kg tow kit be sufficient to tow a mini and trailer? I'm guessing the 1200kg might not cut it?

Well a mini only weighs about 600kg so unless your trailer weighs more than 600kg you could use a 1200kg setup, however the 1600kg tow capacity is more than ample.

I recently finished my trailer constructed from 75 x 50 x 3mm RHS draw bar and 65 x 35 x 2mm RHS deck frame nominal deck size 3000 x 1500mm. Two tracks 400 wide on each side covered with 2mm thick aluminium tread plate which continues onto the 1200 mm long ramps. The trailer was fitted with one tonne springs and a one tonne axle running Toyota Hilux alloy rims fitted with light truck tyres. All up the material costs were approximately $1200.

The registered trailer weight was 200kg which keeps it below the NSW 250kg limit for non inspection with annual registration costs of $62. I have yet to confirm the loaded axle weight on a weighbridge however the calculated axle load was 700kg, below the load limit of 750kg for this trailer.

I recently travelled to Inverell to pick up my new purchase with the trailer and travelling both empty and loaded was a dream, well worth the investment.

Was just looking at this thread, and also like Crumpet's trailer. Do we know where he got it? I've been googling but can't find anything that way. Thanks - Matt

Hi MattE,

My car trailer was built by Mark Whiteside around 15 years ago for the prevoius pilot of my mini race car. From what I'm told Mark used to race minis in the past but I have no further contact information for him. If you are interested you could try Ian (NSW) on 0434015504 I'm sure he could make you a trailer to suit.

Another little handy feature if the trailer is for a competition car is the extra wheel carriers fitted in the middle of the belly.

Cheers

Chris
