Hi everyone,
I currently have all wheels off, suspension out ect... When I turn my hubs they are quite grumbly, some worse than others. Qu is are they meant to make any noise at all? This is going to be my daily driver so should I bite the bullet and replace all wheel bearings whilst everything is apart? Car was sitting 20 yrs. They are definately noisy compared to the moke I have nearly finished.
Cheers,
Steve

The noise could be the driveshafts or CV joints as well? The wheel bearings aren't too hard to change while you have it all apart. The front ones go well with Timken genuine tapered ones, some of the non-genuine ones aren't great.

If your drive shafts are removed it must be the wheel bearings - and they shouldn't grumble. When you turn them, they shouldn't 'grab' at all - they will have some resistance (due to the bearing preload) but they should move smoothly. if it grabs or feels notchy asyou turn it, you either have damaged bearings or too much preload.

I changed the bearing in the front of my moke due to a noise. Changed them with some aftermarket ones and didnt fix it. It was the drive flange scraping the wheelhub.

Tried a Timkin one and fixed the problem

Grumbly bearings can also be from an improperly set up bearing. If the center spacer was ground too small the bearings will press inwards on the race and grumble when turned. If the bearing was reasonably new and well greased then I would suggest this may also be a potential cause.
