Hi guys,
Unfortunately, on the way home just then I had a hilo failure. All I know is I had a very loud bang whilst driving. I may have hit something but can't tell. A few scrape marks in the area but they may have been from the adjustable hilo bolt head catapulting out of the car when it snapped clean off. I was shocked when I had a look. Pretty disappointing. Managed to limp it home and get it up on jackstands.

My question is, do I need to buy official minitastic adjustable hilo's again or can I fit something like these with springs?

Yepp the rip speed ones are the only sets I use and have had failures in the cheaper brands. Don't bother with the mini spares junk as the alloy is crap and will be all fuzzy and corroded within a month.

Good peace of mind with the linked ones. Hope there wasn't too much damage caused.

A note on aluminium corrosion. All aluminium corrodes immediately on contact with air - thus the reason that you anodise it or give it a clear lacquer if you don't want to be constantly polishing it. Either that or let it get its initial corrosion on because for most applications it will stop there. Out of interest, Anodising is a process of creating a controlled corroded layer. Under a car it really doesn't matter unless it is a show car. The thing to look out for is if it is a low grade one that cracks or deforms in the application it is used for which i gather is what CPOCSM is referring to. I think the technical term is cheese .

It is common for the adjusting bolts to fail if they are cheap grade. There is little thickness between the 1/2" hole and the root diameter of the threads.

Karcraft's Hi-Los are great too, they are CNC machined here in Sydney from alloy billet, and I think the bolts are grade 5.
