66 is when the £ turned to $ 14 February 1966 so just look for old ads and see if any are sold in £ they all should be in $ if released after 14 Feb

They kept the pounds on the adverts as well as dollars for quite a few months after Feb 66, pretty much till the end of 66 in a lot of cases.

Oh goodie I have successfully opened a can of worms, The only documentation I have is a sales brochure which is marked in pen , I think it says " rec (recieved?)14.9.65 1140 pounds released for Sydney motor show" What do you make of that. It would be nice to know so that we can celebrate one of the best cars ever made.

A little cryptic there Woody, so are you saying the doco appears to be saying that someone who attended the SMS wrote the Cooper S would be released for sale at 1140 pounds on the 14th?

or did someone (you?) buy or place a deposit on a SMS display car for 1140 pounds? on the 14th?
