Do people use old period correct tyres for restorations even if they are 40 years old?
I have just picked up a couple of Leyland S rims and they have 5.95s10 Olympic Contoured Air Ride C64 tyres on them. They are in good condition with 90% tread on them but obviously I don't want to drive on them. Before I get the tyres disposed I was just wanting to know if this is a tyre that someone would use on a resto.
I know the Dunlop Aquajets were sought after and have been reproduced.

I have a small collection of old mini wheels simply for sentimental purposes, once they are thrown out you wont be able to find them again.

My 10 inch spare on original rim I plan to turn into a coffee table, when I get a spare front hub/axle/drive flange, seeing as I now run 12's

when I got my Cooper S it had a Dunlop SP41 in the boot which is probably one of the originals that came with it.

I would be cautious to use them to drive on as the rubber ages. I think this is more of an issue in colder climates and I understand it is a big deal in the US, possibly more so with the modern rubber.

I can't remember anyone raving about their Continentals in the 60s/70s...in fact most couldn't give a "Continental"...

Using really old tyres on something you are driving is a little like playing Russian Roulette...(if your paranoid about these things)

My car had some horrifically old tyres on the back when I got it. One was a Firestone "Cavallino Sport" and the other was a Goodyear "Super Cushion G8".

My Cooper S came with a pair of John Bull tyres on the rear.

I've got a gnarly old pair of Continental TS 771 tyres if anyone wants them before they get thrown out.. They might make good off-roading tyres??

They are long past their use-by date re-treads...

Hang them on the side of the fence, paint them in pretty colours and grow petunias in em  :D
