The advice last night from the CMC and ACMC is to wait, not act until your club receives something in writing from the RMS directly.
That Information sheet PDF was discussed last night and confirmed that it was a draft; not official yet, nor accepted.

It is quite likely that some or all of it may form the basis of what goes ahead, but it was stressed it is not yet finalised.

RMS clubs (or those wishing to get involved) must first register their intent to opt in, before any individual club member can.

In terms of cost Mick, it appears it will not cost any extra to participate in the trial for the first year. The number of days you get on the logbook for the first year is dependant on how much remaining rego you have on your existing HVS plated car (if currently on H Plates). It will vary from 15-60 days on a pro-rata basis.

Looks like the club should notify the RMS, not necessarily wait?

I'm interested in the modified option as one of my minis has been modified too much for normal historic rego

If the information sheet is correct Michael, that won't start until early next year.
The concern is if clubs and individuals rush the RMS tomorrow when indications from the ACMC are that they are not ready, then it may only make the situation worse.

I have heard that some people are going to try tomorrow. Should the RMS branch actually issue a logbook, one wonders if they will be considered registered and insured if what the CMC say is true?
They may think they are of course, but that may not help them in the event of an accident.

Apologies for being quite direct here, but I'm worried that people might read this and take it to be gospel truth, when in fact it is some of the most half-baked speculation I've ever read.

The RMS is the authority on these matters, not the CMC.

If the RMS issues you with a log book to record your use of the car which was duly registered and insured with the RMS then that is that.

The CMC is a representative body to which clubs may choose to affiliate. They're like a Chamber of Commerce, or a trade union, and their role is to lobby the RMS on behalf of their members.

The RMS on Thursday issued logbooks to people when in fact no club had opted in and been approved for the scheme at that stage. They then started to ring individuals and advise them them not to use the logbook as their club had not opted in. I know this to be fact.

On Friday, the situation changed when many clubs had applied and been accepted. Before an individual can opt in, they need to check if their club has been accepted. There is a PDF link off the relevant RMS page dealing with the logbook trial.

Yes you are correct regarding the CMC and their role.

I swapped my XU-1 over today from Club Rego to the 60 day log book trial.
It took about 1/2 an hour due to the fact I was only the 2nd person to do it at that particular office.
I kept my H plates and it cost $0 to join the trial.
Also , Shannons told me they are treating the log book trial the same as club rego , do no increase'in insurance.
Happy days

And the log book states the 60 days are in addition to any registered club runs. So the 60 days is really for private use and mechanical work.

Dumb Question for those who administer Concessional Rego in a NSW club:

Is it kosher for a driver other then the owner/registered owner/club person to drive a concessionally registered vehicle in a club approved event. The example would be where (say) a person has more than one car on "club rego" and needs to get car(s) to an event.

I suppose going one further, it could also be for a maintenance run or repairs or whatever...

Insurance may not cover the "helper" though? :?

Yes. Conditional rego (in NSW) is just that... As long as you adhere to the conditions then your vehicle is "registered".

The conditions are quite clear ..and short. There's nothing in my documenation that says the driver must be the owner...

Cheers

Thanks Ian...

...I've done this several times....but was just wondering what the cop on the side of the road would say...as long as you hadn't hot wired the car, had no outstanding warrants, was licenced and not in possession of house-breaking tools AND had the permission of the owner...all would fine.

But, I say again, does the scheme (question for Council of Car Clubs?) allow for such use and where would a good samaritan/non-club member stand (or not as the case may be) in the event of an accident?

The car must have a Certificate of Approved Operation. It sets out the conditions of use. Read it.

The insurance company may set special conditions as to the age and qualifications of any driver.

"but I have never sighted said document before lending a helping hand......"

Take a few minutes next time you get in the car...

The second line of the certificate (under the title) reads:

"This certificate should be kept in the vehicle at all times"

There are only 2 conditions; :..vehicle to be used on authorised club events or maintenance" and "..registered operator must be a member of an authorised motoring club..."

Cheers, Ian
