I knew it wouldn't be fun so I did the back first. Now this is my problem - I used the compression tool to compress the old cone and BANG! I stripped some thread from the tool so I can't use it anymore.

New plan... Take off upper arm (if that's what it is called) and hopefully everything should just fall out? will this work?

Just cut the alloy trumpet in half as you are replacing that part with the hilo. I use a air hack saw. You can remove the little bump/travel stop from under the top arm to give you a bit more room(philips head).

Ok thanks. I'm swapping my drums for discs so will just kill 2 birds and remove the drum so I have more room to cut and play. When I tried to remove the old bump stop it tore off the metal so I'll have to grind that off too. Any easy way to remove the bump stop on the other side without tearing it apart?

Yes you can drop the top arm.

I just replaced the Donuts on Dads Rover with a smootha ride kit and we had to drop the top arms as there was no way it would have fitted otherwise (The donuts are huge).

Just a pain getting the two little bolts back in that hole the bracket that keeps the shaft in.

The allow cone is often stuck on the donut and doesnt want to separate either.

I left the upper arm on for now and I cut the trumpet and took out the bottom half. The top half is stuck in the rubber cone... I gave up when the sun went down and will have another go tomorrow

Soak some WD40 around the flange of the trumpet.
I had trouble with one, found the air chisel, a `rat a tat tat' and it was off.

Don't be tempted to put the assembly in the vice and try levering the cone out without using WD40 beforehand as it will wreck the rubber cone. Sacrifice the cone by cutting it into sections with a hacksaw first then it will be easy to lever out. Before fitting the hi lo, smear lightly with moly grease on the cone. Easy for next time then.

Once you have the trumpet and rubber cone out of the way you will be able to get a spanner up inside the tower and on the nuts that attach the bumpstop to the subframe...

I cut, grinded and drilled the trumpet until it fell out of the old cone. Took off the upper arm and have removed it all. I have disconnected everything except for the lower arm and brake hose. Having trouble separating the lower arm and have stripped the small nut for the brake line.

How do I detach the lower arm!? I have sprayed with penetrating spray and hit with many hammers. Do I just continue this method? I was having trouble with the upper arm but after I sprayed it and went out for lunch it just fell off.

Did you remove the 2 small nuts? shaft won't come forward unless you do.

I got it free! What small nuts? Are you referring to the ones connecting the upper arm?

Stripped the 11mm nut on the brake line. This is so much fun. It seems to be made of butter. Anyone else had this issue?

No cause I have flare spanners never use a open ended spanner on these nuts

I use flare spanners, and I had the same issue. If they're corroded enough, they will round no matter what. I just use vice grips on the rounded one.
