Should never use open end spanners on these flare nuts.
If you don't have or can't afford flare nut spanners, use a ring/OE spanner and cut a 5mm wide slot in the ring end.

When undoing old looking brake pipe nuts I always try and tighten them a touch first before trying to undo them. Seriously it works.
Oh, and use the right spanners too! And a squirt of penetrating oil will help as well. (not WD40, I said penetrating oil!)

Thanks. Gave it a hit with some penetrating oil before calling it a day. Will get some of those spanners so I don't do the same on the other side.

Got it off. Next question... How do I remove the outer CV joint? I've watched so many YouTube videos and read on forums but it seems like they all replace the inner cv and never detach the two. Do I need to replace a circlip of some type after I remove it. I might just run the old ones for a while haha.

Here mate its In the manual on this site just download and print

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=84427

There's other manuals on the mk1 mini forum and Dr google not hard to get

The old clips should be fine as they go no where after you smack off the cv with a hammer

Its kind of a tricky one at home. You hold the shaft in one hand and mallet away at the edge of the CV joint with the other. It can take some time and it won't give you any inkling that what you are doing is correct, but there's a detent spring clip on the end of the shaft which needs to let the inner CV bearing carrier go before it will drop away.

What Mick said. And if the bugger won't come off- no way, no how, the ends of the clip may be bent. I have had to sacrifice several CVs by cutting them, to get at the clip and allow the driveshaft to pull out.

Before refitting the shaft, check the clips are not worn or bent.

I have fixed a few Minis that the shaft had slid out of the CV because the circlip was old and unhelpful.

Can I replace a dual bolt bump stop with a single bolt bump stop (ordered the wrong ones) or should I just buy the dual bolt ones?
