g'day all, long time no post.

I've finally got some time to work on the mini.

replacing the metro brakes with std 7.5 discs and trying to tidy up some of the strange things the Previous owner did to the little beast.

I've taken the calipers and brakes off, and removed the flexible caliper to body line that were on the car.

The new flexible caliper to body lines have much bigger male threads to connect to body, the old ones for the metro brakes were small and female thread ?

looking further in there appears to be some rampant dodginess. where the drivers side caliper hose connects to the body and the brake light switch seems wrong to me and there's a massive braided flexi hose feeding the passenger side.

is there a brake distribution block that the drivers caliper hose, brake light switch screw into and distributes brake fluid to both front calipers?

any pictures of what this area is meant to look like? I don't think i've got stock items and I want to get it sorted.

Yes, all those parts connect on top of the drivers side brake hose, as it comes up through the subframe, see the stack of pieces on the middle left here:

thanks for that reply mate. awesome exploded image, just what i needed.

seems the metro hoses have a different way of going through the subframe but i've got it sussed now.

just the braided hose joining the front drivers to front passengers is now a bit concerning.

any one have any reason that a braided line running across the car won't be suitable? seems odd to me, i'm used to cars having solid pipes everywhere.

Be aware that MKO stocks most of the original parts you are talking about, including brake pipes made to the original specification and already bent to the correct shape. Also the connectors and fittings, some of which are new old stock. Other Mini parts suppliers have brake components as well.

It may be that you have a mix of metric and imperial (unified threads) fittings at the moment. See the following BMC & Leyland Australia technical bulletin. There's another two pages that I can post if there's interest.

I can't comment on the suitability of a braided line for this application, but here's the standard factory item should you want to revert.

Having a long flexible hose will give you more pedal travel as the hose expands slightly. I would put a solid line back in. The PO probably stripped the nuts or broke the line off at some stage and replaced it with a braided hose.

yeah didnt seem right to me. i was planning on replacing it.

cheers winabbey, nice to know you can get premade. i dread to think how a pipe like that is posted!

i'll try and source locally, but as i don't have a template i may be going the minikingdom option.

If you are clear on the route of that pipe around the subframe you can use some thick fencing wire to make a template, then take that to a brake place for them to make up a pipe with fittings. A few years back I used a mobile brake business that came to me and made up some pipes to suit.

Mate, I have had several pipes sent to me from Mini kingdom Online. I am in Brisbane and they arrive the next morning after ordering, and always in one piece and undamaged.
