I was wondering if anyone has some war stories about accidents they have been in with there mini. The reason i ask is im interested in finding out how mini,s handle the odd bit of biff,i was looking at a manual which had pics of the engine bay and it seems to sit in a rather flimsy box like structure.I can imagine hitting something head on the engine in my lap and mysels in the back seat   Either way im going to get one obsessed and possesed

tops attiude mate, you wont end up in the back seat, just the dash will crumple around you, possibly braking a knee in the process.

but dont let this put you off.

Low velocity impacts **** panels more on Minis than they do on Falcons.
This is a fact.
My accident involved me rearing a Falcon at about 20km/h by the time i'd slowed down from locking up brakes, etc.

Cost to fix = $1500 dollars, as these are not like new cars' panels where they just unbolt - all mini panels are welded.

Live and learn

Tip: either invest in disc brakes or keep your drums WELL adjusted (some thing that i often neglect to do  ) :)

I was passenger in a Mini that hit a tree headon at ~60MPH years back. Yes I (and my front seat) finished up on the back seat. Tree went thru the radiator..
But hey, I'm still here.. most of me, anyhow. Only spent 21 weeks in traction...
There's worse cars than a Mini to have a prang in.
I do have a pic but I'm not posting it up anymore. Gives me the shivers..!

My mokes been through a bit.

First got hit at a car speeding to make an orange light. I remember turning just after it went red and they went into my passenger corner. Did more damage to them then they did to me.

Second got side swiped by a truck at 80k's an hour down old footscray rd (4 lane). I was sittign under his mirror and he decided to change lanes and didn't see me. My drivers front ended up ground away into his front passenger wheel.

Nothing like driving a moke, looking out to the side and seeing a truck wheel at eye level coming right at you.

Then late last year I rear ended a bmw that slammed on it's brakes because someone coming from the other direction decided to flip on their indicators and turn at the last second. My drummies weren't up to the task (hadn't bled them in a while).

But hey.. me and the moke have lived. (mokes seen better days though).

I've had two accidents in Mini's - first one I clipped a roo with the extreme right hand edge of my clubbys headlight surround - instant fat wheel arch. Managed to keep the motor alive, and saw the roo was still kicking - so reversed back over it and tore the exhaust off....

Second one I was late for work in winter and all my windows were frosted over - didn't give way at a round a bout and was t boned by a truck!!! Caught me just behind the B pillar drivers side and flattened my right hand cooper S tank - was not happy - especially as I had just filled them the night before! Was prolly lucky not to catch fire... (BTW the front half of this car is for sale PM me if you want a straight clubby front end)

Moral of the story is: you will have accidents in any car you buy. If you are worried about safety - buy a volvo. Don't be like my dad who buys a berlina commodore with abs and aiibags, then puts the cheapest korean rubber and brake pads he can find on it

Rear ended the stupid cow in a Torana who decided to lock up for no reason whatsover while in my very first car a mini matic. Rebuilt the front end then swapped it for a HQ (yeah I know I was an idiot but I had a boat that needed towing at the time), what was even worse was the son of the guy I swapped it to managed to roll it a month later. How you roll a mini matic I'll never know

i heard a rumor that in 59 60 issy or someone who had a lot to do with the mini said there was no way a mini could be rolled so a brave young mechanic tried and tried and tried ........ so he drop the pressure in two tyres and yup he turned it over

I remember hitting a sharp corner going way too fast in hher and all I managed to do was serveral 360's , didn't even feel like it was going to roll. I think he must have lost it on a shoulder or traffic island myself.
