I'm looking for suppliers of wood veneer to re veneer the dashboard for my mini.

Most suppliers I have found online are in America, making the freight expensive.

Does anyone know any suppliers of wood veneer in Australia? Melbourne if possible?

I used these guys - http://www.goodsandchattels.com/ - great quality, great range, easy to deal with. I bought a Thermo Veneer - http://www.goodsandchattels.com/index.p ... Itemid=258 - great product. Get an old iron out, with some grease-proof paper between the iron and the veneer, and just iron the veneer onto the base. The heat melts the glue, the bond is quite good.

I spent ages looking for a local supplier (as in, a supplier I could physically visit), they were the best I could do. Purchased online, decent post.

I had the same issue with my dash. I ended up removing all the veneer and then covering the 5 ply with a textured black leather. The drivers side glove box lid I converted into an instrument panel (rev counter, oil and temp gauges and indicator lights. It came up really well and matches the black interior. Just giving you another option!

I made my own dash, copied from a real one, and veneered it in blackwood in my youth. It came out pretty well, but I had trouble getting the veneer to conform around the curves either side of the speedo. I had the grain running horizontally , because that was the shape of the sheet of veneer, but I should have done it vertically.

When I last attempted to do this a few years ago I used steam from an iron to soften the timber, clamped it around the curved edges, waited for it to dry out then glued it down.

Seemed to work ok.

I couldn't get enough steam into it with an iron. In the end some of the fibres broke so the surface had some imperfections on the rounded parts.
