Anyone know what the brackets fitted to both front lights are? Seems to have a nut welded on the end?

Great find Brett 8)

Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Any chance you could take a photo of where the horn is mounted?

Cheers,

Fred

Those brackets on the headlights are for a spotlight bar I'm told. Apparently a purchased aftermarket item from back in the day...

Quite possibly... but more likely an insurance issue. Years ago I had some work done by Murray Shiel (sp??) ...Mini racer turned Mazda star. In the late 70s he used to pick up Ss dirt cheap, strip out the engine and maybe brakes and rebirth them as Deluxes or Ks.. Ss couldn't be insured without taking out a mortgage on your first born, so it was more profitable to advertise more mundane models.

And then you could sell the "good" bits to more mature of us who could afford the insurance. (because we got better rates:)... and had reasonable no claim bonuses..

Cheers, Ian

In my case the car was a Mini DeLuxe which had low insurance premiums. It just happened to have Cooper S power train, suspension and brakes.

I think some insurance companies back then didn't have sophisticated scrutiny. It was just an engine change after all. They didn't see it as a 'real' Cooper S.

At times a higher insurance premium was often based on the fact the car simply had 2 doors...

I don't think they are that sophisticated even now, with respect to old cars.
I know of a registered 850 with a 1275S drivetrain & brakes, engine # prefix is 8AM/U/H!!

You guys are all spot on and this is the exact same reason that was given to me by the 65 or so year old owner. He said when he was in his 20/30's the insurance was a killer and having a few minis meant he could just swap the rego plates and Chassis plate between cars when one would need to come off the road for any reason.

Today we tried to obtain registration records from the Road and Maritime Authorities, however they can't go back before the mid 90's and unfortunately it was off the road since well before then. We're now up to looking for hard copy registration paperwork in a deceased estate mess...

Winnabey, no problems and I'm learning quite a lot from all of you guys chatting and it helps in my quest.
