Hi everyone.

I've seen some pictures on this forum of people who have had to modify the firewall to fit an aftermarket inlet manifold/carb. Im currently waiting on a 7" RE SU manifold and understand i'll have to cut into the firewall to fit it. Now that I need to do it myself and I'm looking to see how other people have done it, I can't find any pictures! If you yourself or have any pictures of someone who has modified the firewall to fit the manifold, could you please upload a photo here?

Cheers!

Here are some photos of mine. Homemade job by the PO. There is 40cm from the cylinder head face to the back of the airbox. My airfilter socks hit the back of the airbox.

Had to put some soundproofing in there, couldn't talk to the passengers without it.

And this shows how far it extends inside. (The radio is just glued on)

This SU manifold need different clearences to a weber. It's a c@nt of a manifold for a mini. Not sure why it was made?

The manifold faces need to be shaved to kick up the carb higher, the 'cross member' across the firewall still needs mods, you won't be able to use the choke, even with the expensive med filter set up half the filter will be blocked by the firewall blanket.

Another member here had one on a 1098, he had to drill a hole in the crossmember to let the HS6 choke work.
[edit] I have machined several of these RE7s from a bare casting; even on a 1275 the angle & height needs to be made different between an HS6, and HIF44. Manifold works great but is tricky to fit in a Mini.
On an auto, it's less problems; the motor sits 20mm further forward and you can just squeeze a Ramflo or K&N filter in without a `Weber box'.
Redrill the subframe, anybody? :P Driveshaft to subby clearance may be a problem, I've not checked.

Hi TK
I made the manifold because it works better than any other manifold on the market, I run one in my LS mini and I did not have to cut the fire wall at all, and they don.t have a hole in the fire wall at all, and I have to use the choke to start it all the time  :)

Well it wont fit a 1970 Mini without mods to the car and manifold.

Shouldn't need them, as he's fitting an SU, not a Weber DCOE.
