A guy on the MM forum has asked me if UK Mk1 or 2 handles can be fitted (with mods) to Oz windup doors?
If so, what mods are needed.
I've not had any sliding windows on a Mini since 1968 so have no idea.

Handles in question are 24A1140kit or 24A2083kit.

Anybody done this? New Oz handles are NLA and good S/H ones are getting rarer.

I was going to do this on my deluxe but it wouldnt have passed a roadworthy so I'm glad I didn't.
The mods would have been:
Handle- shorten the square peg drive and put a circlip groove on.
Door- weld up plastic peg holes and escutcheon holes. New holes are needed for the escutcheon as they are different sizes.

I am looking into getting some new pins made to convert sliding window locks to wind-up window locks. They're much the same apart from their attachment (although the passenger's side is a little tricky as you need to swap the latch lever over). I'm not sure how viable it would be to get these made but I wasn't keen on making 100 of them myself. You basically just need to drill out the pins/rivets and replace them with new threaded ones so you would need to be a little handy.

I wonder what the difference is between the UK Mk1 and UK Mk2 - I understand that both have sliding windows.

If you look at the links I gave, it seems the Mk2 has a safety peg like our windup doors, to help prevent spearing slow pedestrians.
Whether the handles are stronger than Mk1s (our 850 ones broke easy) I dunno.
