Somewhere else there's a disconcerting note to the effect that "abuse" of toluene can cause "testicular atrophy". I don't know what constitutes abuse ..but it doesn't sound like a good idea..

The fact that its not too bad is good news as its a major constituent of Oz motor fuel. However, as noted previously, it has a significant effect on rubber which means the proportion needs to be pretty stable. Too much and your fuel lines go soggy - and fall off. Too little and fuel lines can dry out ...and fall off A few years ago there was a spate of engine fires in NZ that was traced to a bad batch of fuel out of Singapore ... too much toluene. But the octane was good

I dunno, but there's no shortage of people dealing with health issues as they thought the safe chemicals they used back in the day have turned out to be quite the opposite. I wouldn't trust much of anyone on the subject that any chemical ending with an "...ene" is safe. The weight is against them all.

I keep my hands and nose out. My employer won't be there to comfort my family once I shuffle on from a premature death.

While I am on it. I like turps in the washer. It is a little higher in the cracking tower so dries a little quicker, leaves no oily finish and also (important in an attached garage), it doesn't stink.
