During the overhaul of the remote housing for my car I came across two holes in the casting which I am not sure of their use. The holes are located at the engine end of the housing, one in the bottom centre under the gear lever and the other on the drivers side. Both holes are drilled and tapped 5/16"UNC and then counter bored 11/32" for part of the depth and are blind holes. Allowance is made in the form of cast bosses to accommodate these holes in the casting.

I did a quick check of some spare housings I have and found that the side hole was present but the bottom centre hole was not present.

Any ideas as to thier purpose - Parts List PUB 1056M does not show any connections into these two holes.

I had a quick look. There is a grease nipple (1/4 UNF) between the 2 bolt holes for the longer bolts attaching the remote to the diff. It goes through to grease the rod shaft. That may/maynot be what you are referring to?
The one to the driver's side is possibly to take a 5/16" UNC setscrew to attach the original factory exhaust downpipe. I have made up clamps to pick up on this hole as it works well for LCB extractors.
