OK, next wheel bearing drama...

I've gone to replace the front two with Timken roller ones. The right front was getting a bit noisy again and the drive flange spacer looked worn too, so I got a new pair of them too.

Drive flanges look like this.

And the new flange spacers don't fit the whole way on

So which bit is wrong? The drive flange or the spacer?

I will wait to be corrected
But I don't think the spacer goes on first
should be tapper bearing , spacer ,insert in hub with outer shells fitted in hub
tapered bearing , cv joint to hold it all together , Oh don't forget the seals

Have a look in the How to section , Dr mini has a how to

Drum brake cars have a spacer 2A4295 before the oil seals and bearings..

Having recently purchased 2 new spacers , wheel bearing and new hub from KC last week I can advise that the new spacers do not fit. I had to grind out a few thou from the inside of each spacer. This was necessary to fit onto either an old hub or new hub. I also found the new hub was made to much to tight tolerances which created major issues trying to fit the new wheel bearing and then the cv joint was too tight to fit inside the hub. Also the new hub is too soft and did not appreciate my old BFH being used to persuade the new bearing to fit.. :)

On one side of the spacer it should have the inside taper as can be seen in the minispares picture. This side should slide onto the flange, so in effect it faces the outside of the car. The spacer should be a nice neat fit and if it isn't sitting flat against the flange something is wrong.

When all bolted up it correctly positions the flange and provides something for the oil seal to run on.

I might just have bad memory or perhaps the photo is deceiving, but that spacer of yours looks too thick too me. It has been a little while since i have looked at one so i could be wrong.

The spacer is the correct thickness, just not the correct inside diameter?

Ok that's good to know that they didn't work for you on new hubs either.

Yep, I'm familiar with the way the spacers go on. It is the same thickness as the one I took off

The inside diameter is good too, it's a good fit on the drive flange, I think the issue is the angle of the taper on the inside of the spacer? I'll have to measure it with the verniers tomorrow and see what the difference is...

I think you will find the spacer just needs a few thou removed from the inner diameter and it will fit. Same for new and old hubs.

I also don't think the hub is bent, just the angle of the photo, but I would clean up the hub with some 600 wet&dry before fitting the new bearing.

Thanks for the advice. The drive flanges are still in good nick, the flash picks up all the tiny scratches though..

Here is the old and new side by side. You can see the different profile.

And new ones. I've filed the right one a small amount and it fits on great now.

When I went to assemble the bearings on the hub, they weren't a super tight fit, so as I tapped on side the other side would fall out a bit. I had a quick trip to the store to get some loctite to hold them in.

Can anyone confirm the spacer goes outside the bearing on the drive flange? Cause in the middle of the hearings on mine the spacer just wobbles about. And when tightened the bearing comes loose again after a drive

I only have experience with drum brake drive flanges...

Originally it was : drive flange , collar , outer bearing , inner spacer , inner bearing , oil seal spacer , oil seal

When I bought new ball bearings: drive flange , collar , outer bearing , inner bearing , oil seal

Timken brand tapered roller bearings: drive flange , collar , outer bearing , spacer , inner bearing , oil seal
