Just looking at these ones
He is saying the Aussie Air Cleaner box is 1/4" deeper than UK ones
So what is the correct air cleaner element for Aussie ones
I notice my filters are loose in the box with the lid on

We mostly got the deeper twin Su box, but there was a shallower box that came later. Some Aussie Clubman GT may have had this later shallow box. It also had a slightly different lid. Some of these shallow boxes may have used the slightly different and shorter wing nut too (second from left in Timmy201's photo)

Your answer is in your own quote??

You can also get K&N brand filters which are washable and reusable and give better flow. That is what I use.

My 850 housing is just over 47mm thick.
My Cooper S Mk2 housing is just over 48mm thick.

Anyone with a Mk1 housing able to measure the thickness?

I have a Ryco A256 (supposed to be the same as AYA2127) filter in the 850 housing which just fits in and it is 46mm overall height, and it is a very tight fit in the Cooper S housing.

I was thinking of maybe some insertion rubber on top of the filters to make up the gap
what are the k&n filter numbers

Yes E-9001. My Mk 1 housing also 48mm. Shop around for the K&N filters here in Aus they are on a few auto sites and eBay. They are expensive but eventually pay for themselves and breathe better than the disposable paper ones. Don't forget you been the cleaner an oil spray.

Either way I would get the right filters. I wouldn't go adding rubber it will get sucked down into the carbies.

Later Twin SU housings were often thinner than others. The UK switched over to a thinner housing at some point (perhaps UK Mk2??) while Australia for its own reasons, perhaps dustier roads persevered with the thicker housings. Clubman GT I am told had these thin air filters.

Here is an example of one I own, it is the same silhouette as an Oz MK2 shape with the cutout, but is approximately 1/4" smaller than the standard A256 height. Hence the thinner filters.

If you find more than a pair for gundyguy I'd like a single one.
