My mini has recently developed a misfire on acceleration.
It seams to be getting slowly worse.
I pulled the plugs out and all were quite sooty except #4 which was dark tan on the electrode and insulator but sooty around the outside.
I've only been driving around the burbs so haven't been able to give it a real blast to heat it up significantly.
Plugs are BP5ES.
Any ideas :?:

Try swapping the coil to see if that makes a difference as well as the usual points, condenser and plugs

Check all the wiring to the coil too, if you have a loose wire or spade connector it'll give a dodgy spark

Start with spark plugs. Then leads. One thing at a time or you will not know what is causing it. Have a look under the bonnet with engine running IN THE DARK to see if there are any stray sparks.

Checked the points for correct gap and OK.
Checked the plugs and they were a little big so I closed them up to 0.025" and then checked that all the leads/connections were tight.
Still had a miss.
Tonight I had a look in the dark and all was dark, as it should be
With nothing to loose I took it for another drive and the miss was still there.
With frustration  I revved it out through the gears and it sort of felt a little better :|
So I repeated the above and eventually the cob webs were cleared and now runs great :D
Apparently it doesn't like being driven like Miss Daisy but more like, well 8)

Thanks for all the assistance
PHIL
