Simon K I'm OK with sending it to you if Dave is OK with it, of course it will have to wait until Kev is finished with it.

Please only use it for drilling a 6mm pilot hole, don't drill the bush bigger. Needs to stay 6mm to fit this hard drill if needed.

I did exactly the same thing, tried welding a bolt to it - nearly destroyed the block - it's on the shelf till I can figure out a smart way to recover it :(

welding a nut to it would be the best way - weld through the centre of the nut and hope for the best

You could try some flat bar, drill a 6mm hole in one end, weld through the hole onto the bolt end. Then use the bar as a type of spanner, might work?

Just make a simple drill jig. No need to get fancy and fit a bush if only for occasional use, just measure the triangular spacing of the 3 holes on a good block, mark out some 20mm steel plate accurately, and drill 3 holes with a bench drill so they are straight.
2 of em make 5/16" for the bolts, and the other one, drill it 6.0mm for a pilot drill. Or if you're feeling lucky, make it 7.0mm, which is near enough to the right tapping drill size (6.9mm) for the 5/16" UNF thread and will ensure the hole is drilled square, even with a hand drill.

Edited for clarity
