Over the years I've found that the speed part is more reliable than the odometer bit. I've never had a Smiths one that made it round the clock. :)

Yep, the brass pawls wear out...or the drive shafts never get moly lubed.

If not too bad the pawl can be carefully filed sharp again :shock: :D

Sitting in the driveway this afternoon ready to go for a drive, I could hear the squeak. Listened closely to the speedo and it was not coming from there (and the fact that I wasn't moving :lol: ) and the squeak was coming from behind the left dash lining panel. Pressed on it and the noise stopped :?
Will investigate further but at least I don't have to have the speedo fixed.

Reminds me of that advert where the guy dismantles whole dash looking for rattle then finds girlfriends earrings in the ashtray.
