My 67 mk1 and 69 mk2 have them on an L bracket on the right side of the slam panel as per pictures. Have not seen many cooper S's that did not have them there.
Cheers

My car (late 68) did not have the horn on the slam panel when I got it, was attached to the inner guard just ahead of the booster and there were no holes in the slam panel (that I could see).

However I saw original cars very close to mine in build number did have them on the slam panel, so I just assumed it had been in a front ender (it looks like it has had at least one front ender) ....so I moved to back to the slam panel.

But I wonder if they did do some on the inner guard???

I always thought the slam panel is a strange choice, its a bit in the way and is quite close to the solenoid. Theres plenty of room on the inner guard, even with the booster.

Yes that is the other spot they were fitted. I have gone through a couple of hundred photos and about 20% of cars had them in that area. Your photo is a good one because it shows the bracket placement. Thanks

I've seen that on mk2's as well and always wondered about it but certainly looks original. Not really an option on mk1's though because of the Lockheed booster size and position of support bracket at front so would think the slam panel was the only real alternative?
Cheers

Mine has the Lockheed and it was mounted down below it on the inner guard. Plenty of free space down there as far as I recall.

Thinking about it and looking at some pictures you are right it certainly is possible. It just looks so cluttered from above.
Cheers

Thank you to those who offered suggestions - I didn't think there were so many likely answers.
The inner guard location can't apply to mine because there are only booster bracket holes on this one and it is an original panel.
It might have to fit to the close panel but I'll need an 'L' bracket and 2 new holes. Maybe the flat bracket on the horn was not original?

From memory mine had been mounted on the inner guard using the L bracket. So this made me think it had been moved to the inner guard after an accident repair. I redrilled holes in the closing panel. I used photos to determine location.

Can't you just bend the straight bracket?

As for correct placement of the holes. The vertical oil cooler cars had the 2 holes drilled closer to the centre of the car and closer to the engine compared to the later cars. Bubbacluby's car has these holes so maybe he can take some measurements/photos.
Here is a photo of car 955.

Thanks gtogreen1969,
That last photo might be very close. Bubbaclubby has sent me some photos too and, without measurements, the holes appear to be further towards the centre than MkII location, but still on the close panel. The rubber buffers are taller/squarer than other Aussie ones.
Your efforts are appreciated.
Bill

Bubbacluby - The 2 holes currently used for your horn bracket are supposed to be the 2 holes for the servo bracket.

The holes for the Horn bracket on Cooper S slammer panel are available at any hardware store on the Sutton stand 1/4 Inch.. No Cooper S tax.
