I find them REALLY hard to work with just using pliers, They slip out and it just isnt fun.

You can put them on the hose before you put the hose on the carb and then slide the whole lot on together. They're not like hose clamps which need to be wound in once fitted so will just slide on.

Hey kath20, as the OP I'll offer these to you first. I have three of these clips in the pics below.

(These are two pics of the same clamp, taken from different angles, the other two are still on the radiator hoses, but look to me to be similar. The fourth clamp on the engine appears to have been replaced with a solid band).

Just pm me your address and I'll chuck them in the post, they are better off on a Cooper than on a Deluxe that's not been kept original. They are from my 998cc and I can just replace them with modern ones when I rebuild this engine.

If kath20 doesn't need them anymore I'll let others know here and offer them out.

Hey there, I just checked, and yes this one does, but it possibly highlighted something else...I think it may have silver overspray on it under the grease.

It is hard to read in this pic

If I was to use them, I would probably sandblast them, but if they are zinc coated or something it might destroy that or make them less authentic. I've only checked this one that was easily taken off the 998 in the shed. I can always check more later if people are interested.

I could always pop them in a paint stripper over night perhaps and see what condition they come up.

I'd bead blast them as it is far less abrasive.
You could also consider a zinc plating kit as you can do quite amazing things at home. Her is my GT carbies with all the linkages etc zinc plated and gold passivated plus some other parts - all done at home. You don't have to passivate and can leave it in just zinc if you want.
Cheers

Wow they look AMAZING, why haven't I done this at home before? Oh well, better start another resto then :)

Oh and ps I have soda so I could soda blast them if everyone thinks that is a good way to pass them on to the next owner without ruining them?

CP Plating in Brissy do a great job. Prepare a bucket full and send to them. About $80 last time I got them done. They do gold as well. Cheaper than the cost of the plating kits.

^true but I don't think any of us are here because we make practical, financially sound decisions when it comes to cars

Hose clamps are claimed thanks guys. If I find another set around I'll let you know in this thread but I think the others have been passed on too.

Yes. Here's my engine bay as it was after more than 20 years in hibernation. You can see the braided lines and clip on the right. The fuel line and clip on the left was done later.

Cheers winnabey for the pic, I'm trying to get now the correct clamps from the breather to the carbs, my car is missing this at present, MKO has none, can anyone point me in the right direction and what is the correct hose size, thanks ?

Looks the same Dunlop Diamond pattern, NLA now I think. May not be hydraulic hose like on the hydro, it just needs to stand low vacuum.

Your car will have CCV instead of the standard PCV arrangement that came on non-SPO41 Cooper S's. With CCV none of the connections had a clip specified. You'll see in the picture of my engine bay posted earlier that the hoses are just a friction fit on the Y piece and carburetors.

No, it's a different specification hose but had the same cross-hatch pattern, at least for the initial production of the MK II S. According to the Technical Bulletin below it wasn't up to the required standard as it had to be modified by inclusion of a spring to stop it collapsing. I believe another hose with plain surface was substituted so as to avoid using the spring but haven't got details at the moment.

Interestingly, in the PBR Service Manual for the VH44J booster (as fitted to the MK II Cooper S) it says: "When making connection from unit to intake manifold do not use anything other than vacuum hose as premature collapse of hose will render the unit inoperative. The rubber used in PBR vacuum hose is resistant to petrol and petrol fumes".

Well done Doug , you must have an unreal filing system to come up with these documents so fast !

I could well imagine it taking 15 mins to fit the spring inside the collapsed hose eh  , more like an hour before you threw it in the bin and got another piece of hose  :D .
