Hi all,

ill be going though the shed of parts again shortly to catalogue what is there but i would like this time to be more prepared.
i tried searching but its quite difficult while driving around and on the run.
i am sorry if i come off sounding gruff and short, i am not doing this for any personal gain, just trying to sort things out for a family who has lost a loved one, who had an extreme love for the classic mini.

what i am looking are lists or directions to areas where i can find such information;
i am looking for lists like;
- List of what each engine prefix
- List describing what each engine was fitted too
- List of era the engine is from
- List of Head castings
- Cam's (numbers and what they were fitted too)
- Crank's (Numbers and what they were fitted too)
- List of each Gearbox casting
- Ways to ID each gearbox from standard units (there are many box's seperated from blocks and if possible, would like to reuinte the box to an engine, would hate to see an 850 box on a 1275 engine)
- Locations of where to I.D. parts

if anyone would be able to help me it would be very appreciated

Thank you for your time
Tezza

Gearbox ID's http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/gearboxes.pdf

Engine ID's https://www.minispares.com/catalogues/c ... px?1~1~102

Head ID's http://www.minimania.com/Cylinder_head_ ... ing_number

Some dates and vehicle usage change for Australian cars. People usually put there numbers up and then others reply to the post.

I usually just search google using the numbers.

If you are lucky the engine blocks will have the tag saying 850, 1000, 1100, 1275 on the rear near the fuel pump.
Engine numbers (including Aussie cars) which are stamped near #1 sparkplug: http://www.mini.org.au/mini_identification.html
Engine casting number which are cast on the rear of the block: http://minispares.com/catalogues/classi ... px?1~1~234
Crankshafts: http://www.minispares.com/catalogues/cl ... aspx?1~1~5
Camshafts can be hard to identify, as they aren't all stamped with part numbers.

Gearbox casting numbers (blue) and identifying stamp (yellow)

A remote gearbox is on the left, 850 is on the right. Also circled is the casting number (green) and the tag (blue)

This is the rod change gearbox (22G1832), they have a round diff cover

Make sure you don't just go off the engine number stampings for Identification. Many engines have been restamped and some cooper s numbers have also found their way onto an 1100S block.

The casting number "AEG312" is a MK1 S 1275 9FSAY engine. It also has a thin flange where it bolts to the gearbox and rear tappet chest covers.

The casting number "AEG312 / AEG634 is a MK2 S or early Clubman GT 1275 9FXEY engine. It has a thick flange where it bolts to the gearbox and rear tappet chest covers.

Here is a cylinder head guide if you can't find any markings on a head or if your markings don't come up on a search.
You will notice the position of the heater tap and thermostat studs change from small bore to big bore.

Not all thick flange blocks have both the AEG 312 and AEG 634 part nos on them.
I have a MK2 S thick flange block with the 9FXEY engine prefix that only has AEG 312 cast into it.
It seems that all S blocks, either thin or thick flange, used the same AEG 312 number.

I saw a block at Link several years ago that had both numbers cast into it but it had never been used. It was thought to be a "spare part" block. IIRC it was painted black.

The pic of the block with both numbers doesn't appear to have been used either and it doesn't have the hole for the push rivet that attaches the 1275 tag.

gtogreen1969 mentioned this above:-
"22G1128 4 Speed / 4 Syncro / Remote shift are hand stamped with the following codes
Mini K = #### or ##### or 5/##### or Nothing
MK2 S = FAXE #### or Nothing"

May I ask what is the physical difference apart from these hand stamped numbers?

Externally the K and S and GT and Clubman used the same remote 22G1128 box however the Internals were different.

The poverty pack sedan, van and moke also used the same box but had a centre change.

Diffs and UJ"S changed a bit between models as well

There was also a 22G846 casing which appears identical to the 22G1128.
The one I worked on had the centre shift aka puddin stirrer so would have been pov pack, van or moke.

When you say the internals were different, do you mean the gears or the physical casting?
