OK, here’s what happens:

Parkers on (ignition is not on & car is not running), parkers illuminate as you would expect, however roll the car forward & the lights (low & high) go on & off. You can roll the car forward & get the lights to stay on if you stop as they come on.

Note, car has just been rebuilt & has a new wiring harness, new alternator & running a new era relay. The only circuits that are not connected are the interior light/door switch & rear number plate light.

When the car is stationary the lights (parkers, Hi & Lo beam) work as normal (both when the car is running & when not)
Now when you drive the car the lights flick on & off (or maybe from hi to lo), including the dash lights.

Any suggestions, its got me buggered

thats why theyre called parkers, they work only when you're parked.

Is it in gear when you roll it? or out of gear?
If its in gear, and the alternator is spinning, that could be causing the issue.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but If the alternator is putting out the opposite voltage to what you need (ie -12v instead of +12v) could that be causing your relays to open/close?

My other guess would be a faulty switch which is rattling and causing the problem.

"Convertible Mini" will probably know the answer!

No, it's not in gear, the motor/alternator is not turning over when it happens

lol... it's gotta be a dodgy earth connection, somewhere there will be a connection that's marginal and just rocking in and out of place

I'd look at the earthing of your era relay unit

Give all the wires a pull-push-yank to track the loose wires or bad connection.

Id say you have a loose wire. Check around the light switch area. Or along the slam panel area.

When you push the car forward only the wheels move or turn. It is hard to say what is causing the lights to turn off and useless to try and guess. Most times you will find it is a man made problem. Park lights should have nothing to do with Headlight relay. Some connection somewhere must be like a pendulum! Check Fuse ( not just by looking at it) and light switch power. Warning only ever use fuses that are externally soldered.

Thanks for the replays thus far.
A few more observations.

Newera relay is earthed ok & all other wiring loom connections seem good.

It would appear that the head light relay is being switched by the head light tell tail light on the back of the speedo.
Remove the globe & the headlight relay is not switched when rolling the car forward
Remove the tell tail globe & fitting from the back of the speedo & the relay is not switched.
Turn the instrument lights off & the relay is not switched.

It would appear the issue at hand is that the instrument lights are the ones that are going on and off as I roll the car forward & hence energising the headlight relay, still can't isolate why this is happening. Still need to isolate if it related to the rotation of the wheels or otherwise

Should the speedo be earthed?

Aha... Check the earth on the Speedo itself.

As there is no earth on the back of the Speedo what happens is the positive feed to the Dash light has no earth connection therefor the power travels through to the speedo housing and then through the Hi beam warning globe filament and to the Relay. Looks like the rolling forward and switching would be caused by the speedo cable rotating and sometimes providing an earth conection. Try That and see if it helps. I think I had this problem on one of my own cars. Good luck.

Sounds like a very wierd wiring loom to me.... Why would you connect the headlight power supply to indicator lamp??? After all its only active for high beam.

All the wiring diagrams i have show the headlights being powered from the dip switch.??? A separate line runs from the dipswitch to the indicator lamp... which earths though the speedo. If the speedo wasn't earthed then the indicator lamp wouldn't work but it would have no impact on the dipswitch to headlight supply.. Similarly, the dash lights are completely separate from the high beam indicator.... and the headlights....
