Hi all,
I'm still continuing my research on the competition history of the Clubman GT in Australia. I have been told from different sources that the BLMC did use some early GT's as rally cars while other swear that they didn't.
Thanks to our MCCNSW historian Ian Thompson I now have a photograph (albeit a photocopied black and white pic) of a BLMC rally GT.
The small article and pic appeared in Motoring News Oct 8. 1971. It reads as follows.
British Leyland.
Southern Cross will be the inaugural appearance of the new-look BLMC team of a Clubman GT, a Morris Cooper S and a Kimberley.
BLMC have a team of three cars entered. One of the new Morris Clubman GT's will be crewed by Evan Green/Peter Brown, who finished second outright last year in a Cooper S. Andrew Cowan/John Bryson will be in a Morris Cooper S and South Australian John Taylor and Graham West will be having their first full factory ride in a much -modified Austin Kimberley.
These cars have all been prepared at the Sydney workshops of Gus Staunton's "Roadsafe International", and this team is also out for outright victory.
The GT was painted in the same works colours at Jim Barrett's Cooper S he recently sold at auction through Shannons.

Now I need to go and sift through the tons of resources that were given to my in-laws by Gus Staunton years ago and see what I can find.
If I can find a body or engine number in the records it may just confirm that our GT was in fact the car that Evan Green campaigned.
