If fitting a black box to a Mini be aware that they won't fire the coil if voltage drops to 10V or less during cranking. This can happen in cold weather if you run a bigger starter than the Lucas. Even with a new 640cca battery and all cable connections cleaned.
My Gemini starter has come off today. Hello Lucas, at least the black box works with you in Winter.
If fitting a bigger starter
with the Accuspark black box, I would upsize the 25mm2 battery cable to 35mm2 to reduce voltage drop.
A Gemini starter has max current draw of 351A according to my spec sheet. Would draw less in normal starting.
I emailed Powerspark, they said their 45D electronic dizzy module works within a 6-16V range.
I emailed Accuspark, they replied that 8V is minimum but they have a fix. It involves bypassing the black box during startup. They are sending me a loom to do this.
[Edit] Accuspark might say it works at 8V, but mine does not, it needs 10V or more. Checked with 2 voltmeters.
Loom has now arrived, it uses a `missile switch' to bypass the green and white wires during starting.
