I have a new speedo cable. Are you supposed to lubricate it?

I took the inner cable out and greased it up....hope this was the right thing to do..... :?

I beleive one end should not be greased...Unsure length or which end sorry :?

Yep, just don't get any grease near the end that goes into the speedo 8)

As said leave the top 6" bare. A little bit of grease will find its way up there soon enough...

I think it's criminal that you buy a NEW speedo cable, complete, and there's not a skerrick of lube inside it.... :evil:
One I got once was rusty too! I wondered why it was squeaking a week after fitment.. :lol:

I'd use a dry lube spray, like locksmiths use in expensive locks. Its not graphite, but comes in a compressed can like wd40. Shake and spray and once the highly (and I mean highly) flamable propelant evaporates in a few secs, a clear, clean thin protective film is left over the surface. Even if it gets into the gauge, its light and almoust invisible.

Grease lube is normal. It's just that now the suppliers don't bother... :evil:

Sounds like a Silicone spray or possibly Lanolin.

I have some (ex Qantas) chain lube in a pressure pack can. Maybe that will do the trick.

Nope and nope, its called "Siper Lube, dri film" and says it has "syncolon" - thats right I said Syncolon, and no its not just silicone spelt with a Vietnamese accent.
