i know this was on here a couple days ago, someone was asking about all the white stuff inside oil filler cap. but i can't find it.

i hve the white stuff, i know this means the engione isn't breathing properly. so how can i fix this? just fit one of those little breather things that looks like a tiny little air filter??? how much are they?

Don't fit the little filter thing. It will not fix the problem.

Do you do a lot of short trips?
Do you have a working thermostat?
Do you have a working PCV system?

i do lots of short trips and a few long ones (short trips = up to the shops, also to work, work takes about 20 mins and mmost of that is 100kms

long trips = home to ballarat or melbourne, mostly at 100kms, about an hour for both give or take.

thermostat is great, and PCV??? is that the little breather pipe that comes off the top of the rocker cover? there is no pipe stuck on the end of it

Some A series are worse for this malady than others. Stock 1098 had bad ventilation, all 1275s with PCV valve were much better. Late 998 Clubby with sucker pipe on carb was good too.

I agree those poncey little aftermarket filters look nice, but they do SFA except oil up and then block.

Agreed. My Mini K Van does the same as Dylans, but my 1275 LS is fine. I do the same trips in both. 8)

I have a 1098, I added a 998 Clubby sideplate breather canister, and ran it to a late HS4 carb with the sucker pipe...
No mayo problem, last time it was on the road.

The PCV system sucks the fumes from the engine into the manifold.
Fresh air is allowed into the engine to replace the bad air!

On the 1100 the hose from the top of the rocker cover is supposed to go to an adaptor between the carby and the manifold. It should also have a side cover with the "flattened pipe" The end of the pipe is not blocked but has a very small slot and it must be clean.

Engines with a PCV had a filler cap with filter in it.. sort of.

I've blocked up both rocker cover breather and have no crank case breather. I replaced the side tappet cover "flat pipe" with a cooper S type oil separater breather and run that into a PCV and into the dellorto intake manifold. No Mayo, and I do a lot of short trips...

The so-called breather cap used on Cooper S, Morris 1100S etc didn't let much air in anyhow... if you took it off while running it affected the idle a fair bit.
I'm running a sealed cap on Barney with the flywheel housing breather going to both suction ports on the twin HS4s. No mayo either.
