I,ve just bought a 68 van and want to pull out the side windows to patch up and paint. Window rubbers are perished beyond reuse.
There is probably a thread on this here somewhere.
The confusion I have is this. :?
Are van windows non-standard ( dealer fitted accesory )?
If so: Where to buy the window rubber?
And what would the part?product be called?
Its a pretty small profile strip by the look of it.
Any help on this appreciated.
I haven't owned a mini since my P plates. Which was long ago.
Getting back into it.

Do you have a pic? I have a full set of the rubbers from my Clubman van which I don't need. Two on each side. Post a pic and I'll see if they're the same.

Sorry Gaf, I removed the windows and filled them in, I think he wants to replace the rubbers and put the windows back in ;)

Any windscreen place should have them though.

Thanks everyone.

angusdog, I'll post a pic for you on saturday, when the boss lets me loose.
Yeah I just want to put the windows back in. Though filling in the panel does sound like an interesting option jill200sx. Is it complicated?

I hope to do my van up gradually. Its pretty tired looking now. But for $1500 I think its ok.
Best feature, rego sticker.

You can use the front rubber and locking strip on the sides. the rear windows are different.
Cheers

I think all vans unless they are a traveller came out without the rear side windows in them, so all of the vans out there that have windows in the side have been cut into them afterwards.... ( i think)

Glass companies are always putting windows in vans, so they would have suitable rubber seals. Glass was put in all mini vans after sale.

I don't think that's true, as the vans with windows dont have that support thing half way down.

Most vans had the windows fitted by the dealer. Often you can tell where the strengthening bar was cut out top and bottom.

Regardless, the rubber was usually an off-the-roll universal type. Clark rubber stock it.

You can still see the remnants of my support beam - real botchy job of cutting it out of the way to fit the windows :?

Anyways - any windscreen mob would be able to replace the rubbers or fit for you. The there is always Clarks Rubber if you want to do it all yourself.

Cheers Dat

Mine still has the support as it has two windows each side, and I think done by the dealer as an option when purchased.

while on the discussion of van rubbers... does anyone in Sydney know where I can get the rubbers for the windows in the back doors (the square windows) and for the actual doors themselves (the seals)... MG Spares dont have either of them...

:(

Also how do you "tighten up" the side windows on a traveller..? They rattle too much for my liking.

Scots old auto rubber http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/Morris%201959-72%20Mini%20&%201973-78%20Lelyand.htm
It's pretty well the only place other than spectrum(and cheaper inclusive of poastge) to get your rubber needs!

Cheers
