Hey Marcel, I have a few D4R83 (16* advance) auto dizzys I want to modify to D4R85 manual spec (12* advance).
How hard is it to strip them weld up the advance stop? I've done Lucas ones before but not these.

Piece O cake. It's just a slot that needs to be filled in. But unless you have a distributor machine to check what you're doing it's going to be a long week of messing around.

Nah it'll be OK. Bobtel just put one on his 1098 & it's better than the 83.

Kevin, how are you guys going sourcing these things these days? What kinda money do they go for? The couple of times I've looked over here I've found nothing good. The couple I DID find had the right numbers but an entirely different casing/shape.

I don't pay anymore than $30. I can go to the wreckers and pick up about three dizzys at anytime.

Yeah I got the last one (D4R83) at pick 'n payless for $30, with cap & rotor but no coil.
I'm about to modify it to reduce centrifugal advance from 16* to 12* (same as an 85). Then I'll do likewise to Barney's one in the 1293A+.
I find 16* (32 crank*) is a bit much for a 1275- at 32* max advance point you finish up with hardly any advance down low, which makes it a slug under 2000.

I got myself a d4r85 the other day from the wreckers - it was 85 for one without coil but 140 for two with apexy filled coils (GT40T). So now I have two sets. One is in my car but if anyone wants the other d4r85 (manual) dizzy and coil for the $70 all up that they cost me - pm me.

Mike,
Correct Bosch coil for these Pulsar electronic dizzys is a GT40R (1.5 ohm) but it's run without a ballast resistor..
Your GT40T coil is a 3 ohm, suitable for stock Lucas or Pertronix ignitor.
