Called into the mechanic today.
And got filled in with the details.
The engine had been sent off this morning. He had a quick look at the engine before he sent it, and he said that a couple of the piston rings were very worn or collapsed, something of the like.
Also, (just going on what i remember parts were called)
The crankshaft thrustwashers were in the worst condition he had ever seen for that part on any vehicle. He showed me the groove(s) that it is meant to have, and it was worn like crazy.
So he didnt know what would happen with the crankshaft, weather it will pass, or be able to be repaired, or if i need a new one, with the thrushes being machined to something very fat.
Aslo the camshaft endfloat was not like something he had seen before. SO that was bad.
Also,
The radiator. The core seemed 'fine enough', there was a repair patch from a previous job, and a few clips off the side were missing, And the small oval shaped tubes going down the core, many many were completely blocked.
So that will be sent off to a specialist, and their probe will try to remove the gunk, and fix up any core damage.
Also,
He showed me my oil pump.
It is 99.9% knackered he said.
It was shocking. (his words)
the grooved and 'creases' and wear and tear, on parts that he said should be as smooth as anything, meant it was a throw away.
Also,
He showed me the water pump.
The fan thing had been hammering against the side of the 'tunnel' there was hugeish damage there, He said it was one of the most vital areas in the cooling system, and it was obviously a huge part of the earlier problem.
Also where the two 'U' bolts attatch to the 'thing' where the transmission is, on the right it was rather loose, a bearing had gone there. And on this whole houseing case, these attatchement bolts had been hammering into the housing. THere were massive grooves in the side of the houseing, So he was going to rub some special crack sealer on it just to be safe.
Also (its the flywheel? that the starter motor hammers into isnt it?)
Well on the grooves on the flywheel, the starter motor has rounded off many of the grooves, so that it is likely that the starter motor has been getting caught while the motor has been on, which i think is true, which isnt good.
There was enough on the grooves for him to just file off the rough edges so a 'new' one isnt needed.
Also, he showed me the clutch, also 99% cheesecaked.
Well maybe thats not much
But it seemed the list was endless, BWAHAHAHA, it seems a lot to me with what else i had been told before.
So i need new oil and water pumps, a few new bearings, maybe the crankshaft is a throw away, maybe it will be fine, (they dont know yet) definately a new clutch, and ill get a radiator job done aswell.
However, he did say the gearbox looked good, All the teeth were nice, no damage, and no looseness in there, so that was a bonus
The deal now is, he will wait for the motor builders to get back to him with the full list of to do things, And a list for all the parts with prices, The local mechanic is going to look up prices for all the parts as well,
And then he is going to give me the list, and see if i can beat the total price by anything worthwhile, and then i will provide the parts, and they can complete.
Either that, or it definately is a throw away job
