well I just had a look at minispares and the straight cut gear kit is 750 pounds and the drop gears about 200 pounds, so there is $2500, add the diff and the quick shift and assembly and a few other bits like bearings and syncros and its probably close to the mark at $4500

wake up & smell the roses Andrew,,,

good bits cost good money, simple as that.

remember that when you`re ready to fork out for all the "good gear" you will be needing when time comes

hee hee,,,how`d you like a super dooper Close ratio 6 speed dog box with slippery quaife diff & S/C drops???

want to even have a guess what it costs??????????????????????????

the thing was that this gb is $4000ish...you could get a similarly spec'd jack knight box for that...sure you would just get the gears (ie. no gear housing or quickshifter...) but wouldnt a jack knight box brand new be better than a 2nd hand reconditioned box like this?

From what I have seen and heard over the last few years the JK gears are not as good as once was, the case hardening is failing

Right now, the MiniSpares 4 synchro SCCR gears are probably best for racing- unless you can afford the new sequential dog box KC is raving about.

Mate, Formula one gearboxes are built to last just the length of the race and then they are thrown away, they build them as light as possible and usually dont have a full box of gears left at the end of the race

Straight cut boxes are not really good for street use as the nature of the box is to be strong and not consume as much power as a helical cut box but the mating surfaces of the gear is actually less than a helical box so there for the gears are not as durable for milage

perhaps it is overkill for your needs anyways

the standard mini box isnt that weak as long as your not driving like a maniac 24/7

IF you are building a full blown race car go for it
if not i wouldnt spend it imho
