Why would it make a difference if I used mild steel bolts? If so I will paint them black with the subframes!!!

Because they are softer and they are holding your behind in place!!! a high tension bolt has a better chance of being reasonable quality....it is an important part of the conversion mate...so splurge out on the good stuff

as far as.....Also with the front mounts their are captive nuts on the other sides welded in and also the right angle plate is to be welded to the bulkhead I think strong enough? that sure sounds strong enough :D

Mick as you know I always you HT Steel Bolts, what I was wondering is what difference mild steel v HT steek would make as far as needing crush collars inside my tube?

Yeah I have just welded the first right angle to bulk head (and yes with the welded captive nuts). She ain't going no where, I think well and truly strong enough. The other one should be finished tomorrow and then it is dash and electrics to go and she's finished.

I dint say anything about crush collars...it was him :!:

No...I just suggested that you could duplicate the front angle bracket and whack another on the other side of the cross brace....with something welded to join the two brackets together....thats likely to be immensley strong and well located.

and den oye said....those fore and aft existing holes are crying out to be used....again...a flat bracket (or foot) welded to the existing work you have done so far would allow you to use the existing holes in the floor and would also give you tremendous strength if it was suitably braced and flat washered underneath the floor (in my humble opinion..)

Mate....at this rate you might be driving it to the Terribly British Day....04 Dec 05.

Yeah Mick got tomorrow off, wonder what the rules are for getting a unregistered vehicle pemit?

As for the rest yeah it would be strong but you should see these mounts anyway  . Also maybe I can revisit it later but at the moment it is about getting over the line, and by that I don't mean shortcuts I think this is way strong enough.

Oh and Dan anytime mate, maybe when I am up in Sydney I can come and have a look. Thanks for the CD too cheers.

Can't remember...its not much 10-30 dollars for a couple of weeks maybe......

As for the rest yeah it would be strong but you should see these mounts anyway  Mounts are not my concern....its the paper thin floor you are mounting all this to

Also maybe I can revisit it later but at the moment it is about getting over the line, and by that I don't mean shortcuts I think this is way strong enough. So long as you don't damage your floor in the process :D

Cheers, Mick

Nah, Mick not how much but whether I can use it to attend a car display. They have pretty strict condition on use.

Yeah I agree with the paper thin floor but when you think about it the original item was bolted to the same things (bulkhead and floor) and in the case of the bulkhead with 7/16" bolts!

Also does anyone know whether there are specifics about seats and stuff as the new OBX fit really well but are only 4mm apart at their narrowest.

matt i think with the seats with mine the engineer just had a quick look at the mounts to see if they were strong enough to hold the seat from moving, they do need spreader plates on the under side. He also said that seat belt actually is more important as its what holds you in place in an accident.

The engineer papers also have a section on head restraints, but as your seats go all the way to the head they are fine.

you guys must have different laws down there
here your frames have to cross the car aswel at the seat base
minimum of 6mm thick steel used for mounts (eg. no box tubing)
has to be fixed with HT bolts with a minimum spec of 6 or soemthin like that
see how ya go when it comes time to get them plated

Geez, rising star that seems a bit OTT. Even the original mounts from the Suzuki Swift I got the rails out of weren't that thick. Also these were based on the same design as a mate who just got his car rego'd so???
