Firstly, a brake fluid does not ETCH like proper paint stripper does.
Secondly, scraping is the first step to paint stripping.
Thirdly, please don't comment on what the "hard" way is.

That is all.

Meeni, willy is right there but if really want to use brake fluid make sure you treat the metal. By using the metal treatment stuff the metal gets a phosphate or phosphorus (i am no chemistry wiz) coating this protects and etches the surface.

also make sure you use an etch primer not a filler primer that was my mistake  if you still want to use the easier way make sure you use the kill rust primer which contains the metal treatment- it is very expensive in cans so just buy the metal treatment it is $15 for 4 litres and use your decent etch primers.

by the way if you continue to use the brake fluid way, use thinners or turps mixed with the brake fluid as this rips off the paint faster. lately i have been stripping back my minor and have found that the best way is to strip the panel with paint stripper, brake fluid worked but it was alot messier- it doesnt stick to the panel and you tend to waste more than you use and you have to buy the metal treatment.

your best bet is stripper and elbow grease. i still treat the metal though but i am weird!

At the risk of sounding stupid and newbyish, would the wire wheel and an angle grinder do terrible things to the seams if you get too close? What is the best way of removing paint near the seams?

where there is rust go down to bare metal, but where the panel seems fine there is no need

yeah ive (me and dad) repaired all the rust, new panels etc,
so it bare metal in some places already,

so just sand the other parts down a bit n go for it,
is that wat ur saying?
just need to be sure,

you will get a better finish if you sand the whole lot down to bare metal, if you have the time do it that way- you use a little more effort and i think it will look the goods! you can just sand it all to a LEVEL finish but you dont want to have a horrible edge were the sanded meets the bare metal.

see what others think before you start- are you respraying the whole car or just a panel or two? if it is just a panel dont bother getting it to bare metal apart from where the rust was/is

if you are doing the whole car just strip it and primer the whole lot then you have a consistant finish through out- i reckon
