Try getting a small cold chisel and hammer and gently hitting it against the shoulder of the oil filter,in the right direction ( anticlock wise). Have had to do this with stuborn filters before, be carefull not to damage the housing. Normally I just use my leather belt and this works ok for the not so stuborn ones.

These things these days are made from very thin (Chinese/Korean) steel. If you put a strap clamp on they often just collapse in and the clamp slips.

Hint: Put the strap right at the top ON the seam, it is much stronger there.

Or do what I did recently- go buy a 3 finger swivelling one, they work great and grab ANY size filter. :wink:

i have a 3 finger swivel thing.. but it is still hard make it budge....

I've never heard of westfield?

Personally I have only ever used, Valvoline, Ryco, Coopers...

I got a 'Purolator' oil dilter the other week.

And yes, the filter was waaaay too bloody tight. I ended up using a screwbie in the bottom corner of the filter, and chiselling it off that way. Why do people insist on doing them up that tight? I only ever just let the seal touch, then go about another third of a turn. I haven't had one leak yet. :wink:

but i am still working on the carby and the clogged up bogged up air filter :lol:
i will get there eventually....

you're all about bling gaf..


and yes chong, I oiled the rubber thing!!

i didnt think brands mattered... as long as they fit :!:

Best bet would be to go buy a 3 legged filter remover, the ones that can take a 3/8th drive ratchet or use a spanner on the end of it and the more you turn it the more it grips, i've found these were the only type that would remove the filter on my old van.

I bought a Kinchrome one for about $18.00 of our tool van guy but you should be able to get one from Repco or a tool outlet locally.
