I'd never get so-called market value cover on anything, after what happened to my mate at work.
When he totalled the near-new XR6 whilst avoiding another twit, N*** took the wreck away. They wrote it off. It took 8 weeks for him to see any $$$$$ because, being market value, the longer they could spin it out the less it was worth.

Wierd the insurer didn't replace the car with a new one, if the car is less than 12months old (or sometimes even 24 months) and you write the car off you get a new one!! Maybe a bit late for your mate though...

Obviously doesn't apply to minis (aside from the later "minis" )

Poee - not only are Shannons the best for price, agreed value etc. they actually put their money where there mouth is.

I had my insured for $6k. It got pinched and stripped. I had salvage rights on the car so got it back for nothing. Then when the cops found the thief AND my parts I got all parts back as well!! At NO cost! PLUS I got my excess back!

Shannons = the way to go for minis - for sure!

When I insured my car the other day, after I was fully paid up and about to hang up, the guy was good enough to let me know that Shannons cover the car if its in an accident whilst doing an advanced driver training course. I never expected that from an insurance company, very 8) .

When i first got my LS, Shannons didn't want to touch it.
I ended up at Vigil, agreed value at $7500. About $535/annum.

When the renewal came up, the guys (Shannons reps) at my Car Club came up to me and told me go go see 'em.

Now it is insured for $12000, only $470 per year, and is on their books with a weber, big cam, loud 'zorst, mags, stereo, everything...

I am (only just) 21 now, and even at $12k cover they didn't even want to see the car. But i guess they had seen it at plenty of other club runs anyway.

I can totally agree with everyone else, call Shannons, but its better if you're in a car club!

One thing though... I don't have wreck retention. Anyone know why? I should call 'em. :?

Yeah I rang NNNN and they laughed, rang Shannons indicated that it had a Starlet engine and I wanted to insure it for 10K, they continued to talk to me. They did indicate that they may want to see the car. But $500 pa all up, I keep the wreck etc. :D :D

I got my policy document today from Shannons, its turns out that I didn't get salvage rights (I get to keep the wreck in the event of a write off) by default, that costs extra if I wanted that. What I do get is 1st option to buy the wreck by default. Anybody had a similar experience?

Regardless, they have been very good to deal with. 8)

All sorted with shannons now.

Agreed at higher than I originally had it with the other insurance company, and cheaper!

They also said that I could insure my van for agreed value full comp for about the same price as i'm paying for the van for just 3rd party fire and theft. So I gotta cancel that and change it over!

My dad is going to insure his 2 Austins with them 2, which will bring down the price of insuring the 1275 LS and the van!
