I have read once before that tachos from points and elec ignition cars were not compatible.

Now that i have honda electronic ignition, will it be a problem using an old smiths tacho, or any tacho?

I'm using a Smiths 8000 tacho on one Pulsar dizzy, and a Veglia Borletti (ex Fiat 124BC coupe) on another. No problem. 8)

Yeap, the stock smiths tacho in my clubby works fine with the electronic pulsar one :)

Yes, that's what Barney has I think.
Coil operation is the same, it's just the switching of primary current that is electronic.

Dont ya just put a resistor or something inline to the tach :? cant remember but have seen something about it before

Clubbies have a loop type tacho and they do work with Pulsar or Honda dizzy.
They are just wired in series with primary circuit.

Ok ok so more in detail - what needs to be done to be able to run the Smiths type loop type with elec ignition? Or what can be done?

On Josh's car, when we fitted a Pulsar, we did nothing- it uses the standard Clubby wiring. 8)

Correct. Not the antique ones on Oz made Minis, anyway.

Marvin, no no no.. you can use a Standard Dizzy.. no problem, DOc was just saying it ALSO works woth thepulsar ones.,....

The Tach side of things is exactly the same, but the pulsar Dizzy replaces the points with a doohickie ....

the tach stays the same....

and for the record, I've got a Pulsar Dizzy, and a Veglia Tach ....... (Same as Haha)

Yes I understand you can use the current tacho with a pulsar dizzy but I just bought a Speco tacho and it says elec ignition so therefore I need to get a pulsar dizzy. It came with a diode to be used with points ignition but I may aswell just get a pulsar one anyway 'cos of all the other good reasons to have one
