easiest way to tell if its a 's' is by the factory flare strips that are under the flares to mount them to the car.

The best way to tell the Mini and the Mini S apart is the compliance plate.
The prefix on the vin number is the key.

Where do I find the body number?
Is it with the engine number on the compliance plate?

I have the 3 gauge in him now, but when I first got him he only had the 2 gauge dash in him.
He doesnt have any flares on him, he didnt have any when I brought him either.

It is on the compliance plate, mine is near the drivers side inner guard near the headlight.

You'll also find the body number on the radiator shroud..

In that case it's most probably not an S
