I too am trying to find out what year my mini was made.I've looked in all the places you guys have mentioned and the only date is on the wiper motor (10 64) but this culd have been changed. The engine has been upgraded to a 1100 so those dates are no good.
I know it was built between 1965 and 1969 by the body type number.
B :twisted body type number is YMA2S2 and body number is 23405.
Any help would be appreciated.

this is my only inside pic

http://hoggle.e-access.com.au/HomePage/Astro/inside.jpg

which type is this?

and the engine stuff doesn't matter as i have a 998.. ;)

BTW
In the 28 years of leyland oz

176,284 mini maded
=6295 per year

the morris was out of production in 67 which means that only 44065 850's were made which means my calculations are fu*ked so ill just say it's a 64 ;)

The body numbers start at 501, so the first car off the line is #501 not #1
You have to remember to subtract 500 off you body number to get the cars actual build number.

Also, if you check the dates on the parts in the car remember that these parts may have sat around for a couple of months before they were fitted to cars. My Cooper S has a wiper motor from early 68 and some other parts from mid 68 and one part from 11/67. So it would have been made sometime after the latest date (unless that part was changed later)

I have the build numbers for the 1100s but not minis

Geez, autos must be lots rarer than Cooper S's then, mine (3/1970) is #1385 so there might have been only around 1,000 (or less) of 'em made!
Pity they're not worth similar $$$$$..

They must have only made a few 850 engined cars after they got rid of the sliding windows too. My Mini Minor is supposedly a 66, but the body number is 1035 (from memory). According to wombats calcs, this would make it the 535th car 8)

I also threw away a 1961 850 shell that was horribly rusted out in the boot and A panels about 15 years ago. If i knew then what i know now i would not have done it, even if the engine was a 1098 clubbie job, but the pressure was on because my parents were moving house and there was no room for it  . At least i still have the two piece roof lining from it, and if you are very nice and offer me lots of money i may even sell to you.

Nah, full of rust and had already had most of the good stuff pinched.

In Aus the 850 and the Cooper had sliding windows and the Panel van.
In the UK all minis up to the MK 2 (about 69?)

Didn't they then move the last Mini production to Enfield where the Mokes were already??

Yep after Zetland finished they went to Enfield.
