Using a relay dramatically reduces the current thru the switchgear. You could put one in the horn circuit but a Mini horn draws bugger-all.
If you fit air horns they come with one.

Most worthwhile place to fit them, IMO is in the headlamp circuit. This saves you putting 12.5A thru the light switch and dipswitch (assuming 75W bulbs being used) and they will last MUCH longer.

you need to use a relay only when there is a high current draw.eg driving lights.
the normal mini horns do not need a relay but if your going to put air horns on then use a relay.
the reason a relay is used is that you use small gauge wiring from the switch to the relay then from relay to earth (20 guage wire) and then use larger wire (16 gauge) from fuse to relay and from relay to lights

Did we have 20 Gauge wire in ours.
I pulled the front wireing loom out to day with a number of dody snips and tucks and a few fried wires from past owners. I'll have a search arond tomorrow for wire

Guess what else I found today my seats are welded in

fitting a relay unit on the headlights saves you having to buy a new dipper switch when the other one melts

From another thread somewhere-

Jaycar ones are pretty cheap but work OK.
I believe Hella do some nice plug-in ones.
I just got a `New Era' (Japanese) 30A double relay (with fuses in it) from Supercheap, $35.
Yeah they do cheap Chinese ones too.
