Wasn't that a VW based box that fitted on the end of the block, not underneath like a Mini? :?

Sounds good to me, I like VW boxes- I was a VW/Formula Vee mechanic in a previous life.:)

3.44 diff was in the 998 Clubbys, and the LS too.
And in the Cooper S & Clubby GT before that.

Depends which Rover. Some over there had stupid gearing, like a 998 pulling a 2.76... or trying to!

Have a look at the tech section of the Hot Bricks SA site. It gives you a good approximation of speeds for revs for a range of diffs and wheel sizes. Would paste it but was too big for page.

The Montego has a VW Golf 4 speed bolted onto the end of the 1275. It is a fairly easy swap for the 5 speed.

Hey Doc, I found a Tempo Matador the other day, ever seen one of them?

Not a Rambler, a Tempo. It is a German light truck with a VW Beetle engine and ....... Front Wheel Drive! It is a lot like a Kombi with the engine under the front seat!

They were the 998 economy engines.

Josh... yours would be 3.44 like mine. Thats 3500rpm with those BIG tyres? 3600rpm with your normal run of the mill 12" tyres would be 100kph.
